The Value of Regular Car Maintenance

Friday, April 15, 2011 8:10:48 AM PDT

Car maintenance is not a science as highly regarded as medicine or penal law, however, it serves the same cause – prevention. You might be a driver so brilliant, that Michael Schumacher would not dare race against you, you might be a nondrinker who does not even know how to spell “whiskey”, yet, a neglected vehicle can easily and unexpectedly turn you into the black angel of a devastating car accident. Hell is surely not the best suited location for a brake system checkup, so better do it here, on Earth.

Keeping your car in perfect shape means safety, security and responsibility. Statistically, most car accidents are assigned to vehicle malfunction, be it tires, brakes, whatsoever. Logically, it is much better that you recurrently pay the mechanic a couple of dollars than have your relatives pay the priest once. You should also consider the fact that roads are not your personal experimental field. So please be kind and responsible enough to not drive an “unhealthy” vehicle. Else, you will represent a menace to public traffic.

As a car owner and a member of modern society, you should also be environmentally concerned. It is known that cars have the bad habit of releasing fumes and fluids which make the chemical composition of air and water not especially appealing. Regular car maintenance helps reduce the amount of these harmful emissions. It is an important antipollution measure and you should not ignore taking it.

Have you seen one of those movies where a boy and a girl drive through a desert, their car suddenly refuses to run on, and while the adventurous couple is checking the engine, zombies immerge out of nowhere? According to current demographic researches, it is highly improbable that you would be facing zombies or any other abysmal creatures in case your car decides to surprise you with a break down. Nevertheless, being stranded amidst nothingness is definitely not an ecstasy-like experience. To avoid unneeded frustration, waste of time, emergency calls and cold dinner, make sure to treat your car with preventative care.

Regular car maintenance is financially beneficial. It is not a secret that a loose bolt, a worn out tire or unchanged brake fluid can call forth severe damage. Scheduled checkups, change of oil, tire rotation etc. are crucial for avoiding expensive repairs and part replacements. Leading a healthy lifestyle will spare you the costs of a potential medical treatment. Maintaining your car properly will spare you the costs of a potential mechanical treatment (or even a new purchase).

Another financially positive effect of having a well-kept car is that it preserves its value and you can get a rather good price if you decide to sell it after a couple of years. Second- and buyers know how to tell a carefully maintained car from a forsaken wreck.

Regular car maintenance is important for you, your car, the environment and the other traffic participants. It means pre-elimination of major risks at the cost of minor expenses. Refer to your manufacturer’s manual and have your vehicle examined accordingly.

Delicious Chicago Deep Dish Pizza

Friday, April 15, 2011 8:01:12 AM PDT

One of the most popular types of pizza in the world is the Chicago deep dish style pizza. It is very different than your standard Italian pizza. It does not have the thin crust like the New York Style pizza has and the pizza is made “upside down”.

First goes on the cheese, followed by toppings of choice, and then finally the sauce. A Chicago style pizza has on average a three inch buttery crust, which can be quite intimidating at first, but just staring at the vast quantities of cheese and rich, chunky tomato sauce will make you drool in anticipation. This tasty crust is oiled heavily to create a slightly fried effect and acts somewhat like a bowl which holds all of the delicious ingredients inside. Authentic Olive oil and corn meal are the main ingredients that make up this crust. On this pizza, there is usually about a pound of cheese. The most common toppings are sausage, pepperoni, bell peppers, onions, and olives. Because of the overload of toppings, the pizza is normally eaten with a fork and knife. It’s rather messy to eat with your fingers, but it is probably the most enjoyable way!

Texan Ike Sewell created the deep dish style pizza in 1943, while working at his bar and grill called Pizzeria Uno. This grill was located in Chicago, but I’m sure you got that already.  During the Depression, families ate one meal bowls, such as casseroles. Therefore, the idea was that the more you load onto a pizza crust, the better it would be! So that’s where the deep pan came into play, resembling a casserole dish.

If you are located in Northern California, you are definitely in for a treat. You can always get real authentic Chicago Deep Dish Pizza at Windy City Pizza in San Mateo. Plus, to top it all off, you can find amazing coupons for Windy City Pizza at GoGoCoupons.com!

Deep Dish Pizza Windy City

Friday, April 15, 2011 7:49:48 AM PDT

Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza www.gogocoupons.com.
On the quest to find the perfect Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza, you have to begin where they all began, in Chicago at the Pizzeria Uno back in 1943. And where the Deep Dish has gone since then is amazing and unbelievable if you don’t realize what a penchant for food America really has. With all of the different variations on the original idea it’s a hard sell to find the right kind of Deep Dish for you.

You’re going to love the crust of the Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza. The crust is up to three inches high and it is rimmed like a bowl to keep all of the deliciousness inside the crust instead of letting it leak out like other styles of pizza. You’ll be amazed by the buttery flavor of the crust as well as the home grown corn meal make up of the bread.

One of the more popular variations to Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza is the stuffed pizza. You take all of the cheese and sausage and pepperoni you want and you press it into the crust. Then take another layer of dough and smash it down onto the toppings, make a thin cut in the top of the dough then smear your sauce over top. The cut will let the sauce leak down into the toppings and make sure the pizza doesn’t explode and injure you. You’re going to love the delicious combination of breads which seem almost fried in the pan.

Don’t be afraid to put some non-traditional toppings on your pizza if you want to keep everything else above the crust. Try out barbecue chicken (my personal favorite) or buffalo sauce added. Mix both the barbecue and the buffalo sauce to get a spicy delicious combination that is hard to beat. Don’t discount the deliciousness of Hawaiian pizza and the Pineapples. Add ham to this and you can feel like you’re at a luau at your home pizza restaurant. If you’re vegetarian bound, you can bulk up like Popeye with a Spinach pizza. Add to that green peppers and onions to give some spice to your life. Mushrooms are a common addition and olives as well (though I personally avoid them).

Whatever you choose, just remember you’re eating a little bit of history with each bite of a Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizza.

Deep Dish Pizza

Chicago style pizza is one of the most comforting styles of pizza in the US. Chicago style pizza was rumored to be invented in 1943 in the Uno Pizzeria in Chicago. Chicago style pizza is also known as deep-dish pizza.Deep-dish pizza’s are characterized by their thick buttery crusts that can be up to three inches tall, creating a “pizza bowl” that cradles the sauce and cheese. Chicago style pizzas are rich and bold. Because of their thick crusts, they can hold more cheese and more toppings than New York style pizzas. Corn meal is a common ingredient in authentic deep-dish pizza crusts, as it makes the crust both crunchier and heartier.

Stuffed pizza is a popular variation of Chicago style pizza. A stuffed pizza is deep dish pizza that is topped with a layer of crispy dough.  A good stuffed pizza has several layers of sauce, cheese and toppings that cook together inside of the pizza dough. Chicago pizza dough is often coated with oil so that the pizza dough almost tasted fried. Common ingredients in stuffed pizzas are sausage, mushrooms, olives and peppers. Broccoli and spinach combinations are fashionable for those going for a vegetarian pizza.

Joey Bowl

Wednesday, January 19, 2011 11:57:27 AM PST

In Belmont, the first Sunday in January has special significance. 5 years ago, Adam Costello lost his neighbor and best friend, Joey Clavijo to heart disease. Adam and his friends put together a football match in honor of Joey, dubbed the "Joey Bowl". Although Joey loved football, his long term heart conditions made it difficult for him to play. The group addresses their friend's condition by raising awareness and funds for the American Heart Association.

After the game, Joey’s mother hosts a gathering at her house. Kurt Mucini, owner of Mountain Mike’s Pizza a local pizza restaurant, catered the event by providing pizza. Adam and his friends are the center of attention, but anyone at the game was welcome to the after party. There were almost a hundred people at the party and every type of pizza a young boy could dream of.

Each player donates $25 to the heart association, and many of the player's families donate as well. So far the group has raised nearly $14,000 for the association from the games alone. The group has also participated and raised money in the association's Heart Walks, bringing the total amount raised to more than $20,000. Joey's older sister, 21-year-old Andrea Clavijo, has helped with the fundraising aspect.

In his nearly 15 years of life, Joey underwent five open-heart surgeries. Besides interfering with his passion for sports, the disease left him developmentally behind his peers and required him to take a few special education classes.

Joey's friends knew it was hard on him not to play on a competitive level, but they managed to have a lot of fun on the field anyway.

Sausage Pizza

Monday, January 17, 2011 5:23:40 PM PST

Sausage is one of the most sought after pizza toppings in America. Pepperoni, a hard spicy Italian sausage, is the most popular pizza topping in America. If you order any sort of meaty pizza, you will also find the ever-present Italian sausage in addition to your pepperoni. These are two staple pizza toppings. However, if you want to be adventurous, you can find uses for many different types of sausage on your pizza.

Mountain Mike’s is one of the wonderful local chains in the Bay Area and they are the place you want to go to if sausage is on your mind. Take a look at their menu. There are no less than five different types of sausage on their menu and each one of them has a unique taste and texture and every one of them is delicious.

The first kind of sausage is Pepperoni. Do not be fooled though. Far from average, Mountain Mike’s works only with old-world pepperoni, which is made using a natural casing, creating a "teacup" look when cooked. It’s been their signature product for over thirty years.

Next on their sausage menu is Linguica, Portuguese cured pork sausage seasoned with garlic and paprika. Linquica has a mildly spicy flavor tempered with a smoking process, which makes the sausage flavorful and tender. Perfect, of course, for pizza!

Naturally, you will find will find Italian sausage on the menu. Who could have sausage pizza with no Italian sausage? Italian sausage is flavored with fennel or anise. If you have had any sort of sausage before, likely it was Italian sausage.

Following Italian sausage is salami. Salami is also another very popular American sausage. It is a cured sausage, fermented and air-dried. In fact, peperonni is a variant of salami. Try getting a pizza with half salami and half pepperoni and tell us which you like better!

Last on the sausage list is LA hot sausage. For those of you who love spicy food, this topping is for you. Rich and flavorful these sausages are the heat at the party.

Mountain Mike’s offers a variety of pizzas that blend sausage with other ingredients. Of course, you can try each of these on their own, or if you are truly daring, try them all at the same time.
